Ballerinas must break
in new Pointe Shoes, just like any new shoe. They try methods, such as hitting
them with blunt objects, wetting the toe box and wearing them wet, heating them
to soften the glue. They have learned, over years of dancing, when to stop
before they shorten the life of new shoes.
